Venice Cup, Lyon, Day 4

After a tense day's play, England emerged on Tuesday evening in sixth place as we approach the half-way point of the round-robin stage.

Proceedings re-commence with another nail-biter this morning, this time against the Dutch, who have led the tournament all the way from the start.  In Chennai, two years ago, we managed to defeat them in the bronze-medal play-off, in which there were some extraordinary hands and, no doubt, there will be plenty of further excitement in today's instalment.

This is to be followed by encounters against Chinese Taipei and Jordan.

  1. Ouch! It's tough when you win your match by nearly 19VPs and remain at the same spot on the ranking list! Still, the aim is to reach the quarter finals, and our ladies are certainly capable of doing that in spades (or clubs, or diamonds or hearts, or even NTs!), so keep up the excellent work.
